FAQs Direct Cremation

What is a direct cremation?

A direct cremation is a simple, dignified, and cost-effective cremation service without a traditional funeral ceremony. There is no formal service, viewing, or attendees at the cremation itself. Instead, the deceased is cremated, and the ashes are returned to the family, allowing them to hold a private memorial or celebration of life at a time and place of their choosing.

Why might someone choose a direct cremation?

People choose direct cremation for various reasons, including:
Affordability – Lower costs compared to traditional funerals.
Simplicity – No formal service, hearse, or procession.
Flexibility – Families can arrange a personal memorial in their own way, including perhaps arranging a 'Celebration of Life' get together at a time to suit all.
Privacy – Ideal for those who prefer a less formal farewell.

Can you take over from another funeral director?
Yes. They may have a small charge for the collection, just as we would have charged if we had done the urgent collection. We will deal with the funeral director on your behalf and work towards keeping this cost to a minimum.

How do I know that the ashes are correct?
Every cremation is individual. There are no bulk or multiple cremations that take place, this is a myth in this country. From the moment your loved one is collected, they are identified with 3 pieces of unique information and this remains on them and on the coffin throughout, right through to the ashes being placed into the urn with the corresponding markers and cremation certificate. So you can rest assured that the ashes are correct.

Do you serve all of Ormskirk?

Yes. We cover the whole of Ormskirk, including Aughton, Westhead, Lathom and the surrounding villages. Our Care Centre is just five miles away in Maghull, so our team can reach you quickly.

How quickly can you collect my loved one in Ormskirk?

We typically arrive within a couple of hours of being called. We cannot collect until the death has been verified by a medical professional, such as a doctor, nurse or paramedic. Once verification is in place, our team can be with you, day or night.
